Preparing for your laser hair removal treatment

Our step-by-step guide makes sure your skin is ready for your upcoming appointment. We’ll go over the do’s and don'ts, as well as go over the most common things to avoid to ensure you get the best results possible. When it comes to the day of a first appointment, we want you to feel comfortable and confident about the process!

Stay away from damaging UV rays

For many reasons, it’s important to keep your skin away from the sun prior to your appointment. Practice applying healthy amounts of SPF to any potentially exposed treatment areas for at least a week prior to your session. Avoiding sun is crucial as it ensures your skin does not incur any damage that could cause the treatment to be postponed. We recommend avoiding direct sun exposure on the treated area for 2 weeks prior to your laser appointment.

Avoid any other hair removal methods and blood thinning medications

Participating in waxing sessions or other hair removal methods (other than shaving) is highly discouraged for at 4-6 weeks prior to your appointment. Avoiding these practices not only protects the integrity of your skin, but also ensures the best possible results following your laser treatment. Lastly, if you have any medications that contain blood thinning properties, it is important to consult with your technician prior to your appointment to see if said medications will affect your services.

Shave your treatment area down

We recommend shaving 24-48 hours prior to your appointment. Unlike waxing, laser hair removal requires your skin to be practically hair-free in order to provide the best results.

how to prepare laser hair removal

What can you expect from a laser hair removal treatment?

Now that you’ve completed the appropriate prep work, it’s time to get a bit of an understanding on what to expect during your first laser hair removal treatment. Remember, there will be at least 2 to 6 sessions needed, and potentially more depending on the area and type of hair being treated.

A cooling device is used during your treatment to manage discomfort.

Because lasers are quite literally a concentrated beam of light, the process can cause slight discomfort. In order to minimize this, we utilize a device called a Zimmer-Chiller that blows cold air to the skin as you are being treated. The result will leave you feeling only a tiny prickly sensation as the laser hits the skin.

Laser equipment will be adjusted specifically for your needs

Since there is no one-size-fits-all laser setting, the equipment is calibrated to fit each individual's needs before the technician begins. This calibration is based on the pigment of your skin and hair. This helps the technician determine what type of laser is needed for your skin type.  Our lasers are safe for all skin tones and hair textures, however, can not effectively treat white, gray, or light blonde hair.

Your technician will begin to treat your skin with the laser

Now that set up has been completed, the treatment will start. Treating a smaller area such as the lips may take only a few minutes, but larger areas such as the back may take up to 30-40 minutes.
